Released in theatres across the U.S.on February 16, 2018, “Black Panther” has since become the fifth highest-grossing film of all time, and the highest-grossing film of 2018. It has received over $709 million in box office as of now. “Black Panther” received raving reviews across the internet for its amazing CGI, cast of characters, storyline, and cultural inspiration. The film is rated 7.9 on IMDb, 97% on Rotten Tomatoes, and an 88% on Metacritic.

T’Challa, aka Black Panther, is the immediate heir to the throne after T’Chaka. When T’Challa’s father dies, he immediately goes back to Wakanda to assume the throne. In the midst of all this, Wakanda is faced with the danger of being exposed to the world; their vibranium is being exported to other countries. T’Challa must defeat his enemies and at the same time protect the secret of Wakanda and its people. This fantasy, science fiction film also relies some parts on African cultural heritage. For example, the costumes of the Wakandan counsel, inhabitants, and the Dora Milaje pull from traditional clothing.

“Black Panther” is another contribution to the importance of black representation. Michael B. Jordan goes on to say that people from “all walks of life” are encouraged to see it. “Black Panther” and “Coco” goes to show that you can appreciate a culture without appropriating it.
