e-Learning Update - May 4, 2020
1. OUR SCHEDULE We have just over three weeks left of school. These next two weeks pretty much mirror the last two. The last full week of school is comprised of four review days and then our first day of finals. The last two days of finals are after Memorial Day. You may refer to both schedules in myMHS on the eLearning resource page, or using these links:
2. FINAL EXAMS The academic senate has made an important change regarding finals: The % weight of finals has been downgraded or eliminated. Your teacher will inform you. The final exam is not going to be a high stakes exam but we are still reserving the time for many of the classes to have a test or some kind of work to complete the course.
3. ON-CAMERA EXPECTATIONS FOR STUDENTS When a teacher has a live class session, we are going to be expecting students to be on-time, appropriately dressed, and visible on-camera. We are close to the end and we want teachers and students to engage with each other the best we can over Google Meets or Zoom.
4. AP EXAMS
- AP’s begin next Monday. By the end of today, I will have held two live sessions with students to prepare them for the changes in this year’s AP, including how the test will be administered. I will record the sessions. If you want to be involved, the best thing you can do is refer to the AP Coronavirus Updates for videos and many informational links, including the important 2020 AP Testing Guide.
- Details: Each AP student will get an AP EXAM TICKET from AP two days before the test. The student has instructions about how to take the test at a specific time. What we can ask for the families is that there is a place the student can concentrate for the 45 minutes, and that the WiFi is not being heavily used at that time.
- The day an AP student is taking an AP Exam, that student is excused from classes.
I know we have made it through the initial shock of going to eLearning, and we have been trying to keep up the best we can with the demands of the time. But we are also spending a lot of time with our ‘ear to the ground'. We are reading from the experts, we are gleaning from other schools, even many out of state. ACSI has been holding town halls on “what’s next”. Our plan is to open school on-time. In the case of possible restrictions, we may rethink the way we arrange physical spaces, ensure the health of students and staff, and perhaps even rearrange how and when students and staff come and go. But, we are thinking about those things and will let you know as this becomes clearer to us. We’ll see you tomorrow on MHS Life!
