You Won’t Want to Miss this Month’s PA Meeting

Join us on Wednesday, September 13, at 8:30 am for the next Parent Association meeting with a special guest speaker.

Maranatha’s PA meetings always feature important news, opportunities, and updates from the school, as well as a guest speaker. This month, the PA welcomes Maranatha’s Wellness Advisor Matthew Fernandez LMFT, will be speaking about “Bringing Your ‘A’ Game to the Start of the School Year”.

Matthew has always enjoyed listening to people’s life stories as well as helping individuals achieve their goals. During his senior year at Maranatha, Matthew took a general psychology course taught by Dr. Nanyamka Redmond. This special course left a long-lasting impression that sparked more passion within him. That spark would later help shape his future career as a therapist and wellness counselor. He then went on to graduate from Maranatha in 2008, then attended Vanguard University, where he obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. Upon completing his undergraduate studies, Matthew went on to receive his Master of Science in Clinical Psychology from Vanguard University. Throughout his educational journey, Matthew has also been actively involved in working with his local church where he also serves under his father, Pastor Daniel Fernandez, as the Worship Pastor.

Matthew has worked with children, pre-teens, adolescents, and adults within the church, community, and public, as well as private school settings. He has also been involved in several mentorship programs and hosted many wellness seminars throughout California. He has extensive experience in crisis management, safety assessment, various relaxation interventions, and wellness consulting. He has also had the opportunity to work with people from diverse cultural, religious, and economic backgrounds. His passion is to integrate his education in both Christianity and Psychology along with utilizing practical, Godly principles to help individuals overcome depression, anxiety, and other life issues. Matthew and his wife, Suzanne, also a Maranatha alum, live in Pasadena and have a one-year-old son named Matthew. They both serve as counselors at Maranatha and truly enjoy the God-given assignments that have been placed before them.
