Speech and Debate Compete in SCDL Tournament

On Saturday, November 17 the Maranatha Varsity Debate Team competed in the annual SCDL Fall Varsity Debate Tournament at Garfield High School.
The Speech and Debate Team has been researching, writing, and debating in class for about two months in preparation for the SCDL Fall Varsity Debate Tournament. The Public Forum topic was Resolved: The United States federal government should impose price controls on the pharmaceutical industry. The Lincoln Douglas topic was Resolved: In a democracy, the public’s right to know ought to be valued above the right to privacy of candidates for public office. In the end, seniors Jake Anderson and Hunter McCoy earned the 6th place trophy for Public Forum Debate and Freshman Sam Tong finished 10th overall for Lincoln Douglas debate.

The Speech Team is currently preparing for the SCDL Fall Varsity Speech Tournament that will take place at Schurr High School in Montebello on Saturday, December 8, 2018
