Alumni Spotlight - Faith Ising '22

Faith Ising ’22 found her place at Maranatha through Speech and Debate. Some of her fondest memories came from traveling to tournaments with her teammates, but the experience also taught her lessons she still carries with her today: how to communicate well, sharpen those around her, and keep going when the odds don’t look good.
Those lessons continued in the classroom. Ms. Barnhart’s art classes taught her to slow down and have patience, while Oliver Honors classes encouraged her to seek truth and to form her own opinions. Together, those experiences helped shape how she approached her years at Biola University and, eventually, her interest in law and public service.

Faith graduated from Biola this year magna cum laude with a degree in history and completed the Torrey Honors College program. During college, her interest in case law and the Supreme Court continued to grow. One experience she is especially proud of was interning in Washington, D.C. While there, she had the opportunity to meet with Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh in his chambers and discuss the law and his experience on the bench.

Now, Faith is headed to Sacramento as part of the California Senate Fellows Program, where she’ll work for one of California’s state senators. She also plans to apply to law school this fall.

Still, some of Faith’s favorite Maranatha memories are the simple ones. As an Ambassador leader, she once helped host a game night for prospective and admitted students that turned into a game of hide-and-seek tag throughout the classrooms.

“We laughed so much, and it was really telling of the kind of environment Maranatha fosters.”

Her advice to fellow alumni carries that same spirit.

“Don’t be afraid to take the first step to get to know people, especially if you’re new to an environment. Even though it can seem scary at first, it can lead to many wonderful connections and friendships. Also, always keep learning, no matter what stage of life you’re in!”
