Maranatha Hires Henry Aiyenero as Newest Girls’ Soccer Head Coach

Maranatha High School and Director of Athletics, Alicia Vessey ’08, announce the hiring of new girls’ soccer head coach, Henry Aiyenero. Aiyenero joins the Lady Minutemen after a 12-10-1 season in 2024–25, during which the team advanced to the CIF-SS Division 5 Playoffs, reaching Round 2.

“We are blessed to welcome Coach Aiyenero as our new head girls' soccer coach! He possesses a passion for faith, soccer, and student-athletes that will continue the growth of the girls' soccer program as they all pursue excellence together,” Vessey stated. “His expertise and leadership will be invaluable to the young ladies as they become better equipped for life through the refinement of their soccer skills. We look forward to seeing what the Lord has in store for this year and the years to come.”

Coach Aiyenero joins Maranatha’s girls’ soccer staff under the guidance of Walker Haynes, who serves as Head of Soccer Programs and Head Coach for the Boys’ Varsity Soccer Team. Coach Haynes spoke highly of Aiyenero during the hiring process, “Coach Aiyenero brings a wealth of knowledge and experience as a high-level coach to the girls’ soccer program at Maranatha. His understanding of the game, how to work with teams at the academy level, coupled with his ability to focus both on individual development and the team dynamic, will help the burgeoning girls’ program continue on the current trajectory of success.”

Aiyenero most recently served as the head coach of the Girls Academy team with the Los Angeles Surf, where he focused on developing athletes both individually and collectively. “Several of our players earned college and university recruitment opportunities. What I enjoyed most was seeing athletes embrace challenges and improve technically and tactically in order to develop stronger self-belief,” Aiyenero shared.

Coach Aiyenero has proven himself as a coach through his work with numerous professional clubs, including the Chicago Fire FC, where he served as an Academy Coach, helping to develop incoming and current professional athletes. Aiyenero also runs the Aiyenero School of Excellence (ASE), where he serves as program director and lead trainer, developing collegiate and professional soccer players.

When asked about his new role and opportunity at Maranatha, Coach Aiyenero reflected, “I’m most excited about building a program rooted in faith, discipline, and unity. Maranatha’s values align closely with my own, and I’m looking forward to creating a culture where student-athletes feel empowered both on and off the field. I'm eager to establish a competitive, Christ-centered environment where players can grow in character, leadership, and excellence. I understand the importance of aligning athletics with spiritual development, and I’m committed to leading in a way that reflects Maranatha’s mission and values.”

Coach Aiyenero leaves the community with words of encouragement before his tenure and the upcoming 2025–26 school year officially begins–

To our student-athletes:
“You are capable of more than you know. This game will challenge you, but it will also shape you. Embrace the process, stay committed, support your teammates, and always lead with heart and humility. I’m honored to be part of your journey, and I can’t wait to see how God uses each of you this season.“

To the Maranatha community:
“Thank you for welcoming me. I’m excited to serve, grow, and compete alongside these amazing student-athletes. Let’s make this season one to inspire, challenge, and empower!”

Coach Aiyenero and the Lady Minutemen begin their season on November 18th, away at California High School, with kickoff at 5:00 p.m.
