Maranatha High School SeaPerch Team Performs Well at International Competition

Maranatha High School's underwater robotics team, after emerging victorious at the 2023 LA Regionals SeaPerch Competition in March, showcased their remarkable skills at the 2023 International SeaPerch Challenge held at the University of Maryland on May 13, 2023. 

Competing against more than 70 other international regional champions, including teams from Kuwait, Egypt, and New Zealand, Maranatha's SeaPerch Underwater Robotics Team once again delivered an outstanding performance.

With their exceptional skills and unwavering determination, the team secured an impressive 4th Place Combined Overall Score, solidifying their reputation as a force to be reckoned with. Their remarkable achievements were further recognized as they brought home two event awards: 1st Place High School Team Video, and 2nd Place High School Stock Class Obstacle Course.

The team members representing Maranatha High School at the competition were Aaron Chang '23 and JT Lam '23 as team captains, along with Bethany Ang '23, Eleanor Koo '24, Kaylee Lam '26, Leo Liu '24, Matthew Moon '24, Evan Ng '23, Victor Qiao '23, Andrew Round '23, Eli Su '24, and Spencer Wang '26. Guiding the team was Dr. Shouhua Huang from the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, who provided invaluable coaching and support throughout their journey.

The team's success would not have been possible without the dedication of Mrs. Langley Lam as the Team Manager, and Mrs. Joanne Chang for hosting team practices. Furthermore, the team expressed their gratitude to Mr. Dan Newkirk and Maranatha High School for their unwavering support and sponsorship.

The success of Maranatha’s Team at the International SeaPerch Challenge is a testament to the power of hands-on STEM education and the cultivation of teamwork skills. Under the guidance of dedicated mentors and educators, these talented students learned valuable lessons in engineering, problem-solving, and collaboration. The competition provided them with an opportunity to apply their knowledge in a practical setting, fostering their passion for science and technology.
