Opening New Doors to Scientific Discovery

Maranatha students are gaining new opportunities to explore science beyond the traditional classroom thanks to the initiative and dedication of Dr. Norman Baker, who continues to expand the school’s extracurricular science offerings.

On September 19, Dr. Baker attended a Biopolymers teacher workshop at UCLA’s California NanoSystems Institute, where educators received hands-on training and materials designed to bring nanoscience experiments back to their students. Dr. Baker returned to Maranatha with a kit full of materials that will help introduce our students to biopolymer nanotechnology and open another area for scientific research and investigation.

This latest addition builds on Dr. Baker’s efforts last year, when he received a grant to purchase ceramics materials and broaden the scientific experiences available to students. His continued investment in new resources and areas of study is helping draw more students into Science Club and exposing them to a wider range of disciplines connected with Science Olympiad competitions.

Through opportunities like these, students can investigate areas of science they might not otherwise encounter during their high school years. We are grateful for Dr. Baker’s enthusiasm for discovery and his commitment to creating meaningful, hands-on learning opportunities for our students.
