TILE Lab Welcomes Biola's New Engineering Dean

On Friday, October 23, Maranatha welcomed Dr. Yohan Lee, the inaugural Dean of Biola University's new Haque College of Engineering and Technology.

Dr. Lee spoke to faculty about the importance of teaching students to "fail forward." Following his presentation, he and Rita Koung of Biola Admissions visited the TILE Lab in Room 106 to meet students who put that philosophy into practice every day.

During the visit, TILE Lab interns and students showcased their projects, sharing what they are building, how they approach their work, and the valuable lessons they've learned along the way. One student interested in game design had the opportunity to ask about career pathways and learn about studios that hire Biola graduates.

The visit also highlighted the similarities between Maranatha's TILE Lab and the innovative learning environment Biola is developing for its new engineering college. Both utilize cutting-edge technology, including Bambu Lab 3D printers and Epilog laser cutters. Biola's Haque College is scheduled to launch in fall 2027, supported by a historic $60 million gift, the largest in the university's history.

This visit reflects the growing partnership between Maranatha and Biola University, creating meaningful connections between high school learning and future opportunities in higher education and beyond. For Maranatha students, it's an exciting glimpse of where their creativity, skills, and curiosity can take them, while giving Biola a firsthand look at the innovative thinkers Maranatha is preparing for the future.
