October PA Meeting: Helping Your Child Build Their College Resume

Parents are invited to join us for our October Parent Association Meeting on Wednesday, October 21, from 8:30-9:30 am in the Student Center.

This month, members of Maranatha’s College Counseling team will present “Helping Your Child Build Their College Resume,” offering helpful insight for parents as they support their students in preparing for college.

Our featured speakers will be Ms. Teresa Petersen, Dr. Charles Fields, and Mrs. Suzanne Fernandez from the College Counseling Office.

Ms. Teresa Petersen, the Dean of College Counseling, is in her 12th year at Maranatha and especially values the relationships she builds with students and their families. Learning each family’s unique story helps her better support students as they work toward success in high school and pursue their dreams beyond Maranatha. Outside of school, she enjoys coaching golf and playing fantasy football with friends and coworkers.

Dr. Charles Fields is in his fifth year at Maranatha, where he serves as a College Counselor and enjoys helping students identify colleges and opportunities that align with their goals and interests. His diverse background includes studies in Biblical Studies and Youth Ministry, nearly three decades with FedEx, and experience as a teacher, coach, and athletic director. After retiring from FedEx, he earned his doctorate in Higher Education from Azusa Pacific University. Outside of work, Dr. Fields enjoys sports, the outdoors, adventure, and spending time with his family.

Mrs. Suzanne Fernandez is in her fourth year at Maranatha and serves as one of Maranatha’s junior and senior college counselors, partnering with students and families in academic planning, college exploration, and the admissions process. She earned her Master of Education in School Counseling and Pupil Personnel Services Credential from the University of Southern California and previously served as a counselor at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. She is passionate about helping students discover their strengths, pursue meaningful opportunities, and approach the college process with confidence and purpose.

Whether college feels just around the corner or still a few years away, this meeting is a great opportunity to learn more about how students can intentionally build experiences, involvement, and accomplishments that will help prepare them for the college application process.

As always, light refreshments will be provided, and parents who attend will earn one Parent Service Program (PSP) hour. We hope you’ll join us!
