Welcome, Coach Ficklin, to the Maranatha Family! #WeAreMaranatha

Maranatha High School and Director of Athletics, Alicia Vessey ’08, announce the hiring of new Head Football Coach, Eddie Ficklin Jr. Ficklin joins the Minutemen following a standout 2023 season at Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary, where he led the program to a 9–3 overall record and a 5–1 mark in league play, earning a CIF playoff berth and advancing to the second round—an accomplishment reached by only three head coaches in school history.

“We are blessed to welcome Coach Ficklin to the Maranatha Football Program,” Vessey stated. “His passion, football expertise, and faith-driven character development of athletes will propel this program to new heights. We look forward to having him and his family as a part of our community.”

Coach Ficklin brings over 12 years of experience in education and coaching, having impacted student-athletes across five different states. Known for his relational approach and commitment to mentorship, Ficklin emphasizes growth both on and off the field, developing players not only as competitors, but as leaders prepared for life beyond the game.  In his first season at Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary, his leadership produced seven All-League selections, with four student-athletes selected to the SGV All-Star Game. Ficklin also served as defensive coordinator in the SGV All-Star Game and was named head coach of the Casa Hernandez Memorial Bowl.

Coach Ficklin, a man of faith, emphasizes character development, accountability, and intentional mentorship. His favorite verse, Psalm 147:4–5, reflects his belief in purpose and identity, shaping his approach to developing each student-athlete.

“I’m most excited for the opportunity to build relationships with our student-athletes and help them grow both on and off the field,” Ficklin shared. “With God’s guidance, we will work to build a program rooted in discipline, unity, and purpose while competing at a championship level. Maranatha’s mission aligns closely with my values, and I’m honored to lead this program.”
