Speech & Debate Team Wins at SCDL Fall Debate

Over the weekend of November 12-13, the Maranatha Speech & Debate Team competed in the annual SCDL Fall Debate Tournament with great success. 
Friday evening’s event was held at Arroyo High School and it was fun returning to a live in-person debate format. On Friday night, Matthew Moon ’24 was undefeated in Lincoln Douglas debate, and freshmen partners Esmee Eaton and Vanessa Kragelund were undefeated for Public Forum debate. Chidera Abaulu ’24, Arden Benitez ’22, Natasha Dugas ’24, Jevin Jiao ’25, and Emily Samuel ’24 also competed on Friday night with great success.   

Saturday, November 13, featured the varsity debaters in an online format. Samuel Tong ’22 and Isabella Madrid ’23 competed in Lincoln Douglas style debate, while sophomores Jessica Tang and Jerry Liu partnered up for Public Forum debate. In the end, Samuel Tong and the Public Forum Team of Tang/Liu earned trophies in their respective categories.  

The Speech and Debate Team looks to finish the Fall season with a live Speech Tournament on Saturday, December 11, at Arroyo High School.
