The Winter Sports season is finished and all of the Maranatha sports teams qualified for CIF.  This included Boys basketball, Girls basketball, Girls soccer, and Boys soccer.

The Winter Sports season is finished and all of the Maranatha sports teams qualified for CIF.  This included Boys basketball, Girls basketball, Girls soccer, and Boys soccer.

The Boys basketball team finished a successful season and were rewarded by qualifying for CIF.  The Boys basketball team finished first in league as they only lost one game in league competition.  The Boys basketball team had their first round of CIF competition two weeks ago against Alemany in what was a rematch of a earlier game in the season, which Maranatha lost to Alemany.  The Boys basketball team played very hard throughout the entire game, but it wasn’t enough as Alemany won by a score of 67 to 61 to eliminate the Minutemen.

The Girls basketball team like the boys finished a successful season which included a couple in Cif.  The Girls basketball team finished in a three way tie for second and were given second place in league as they won the coin flip.  The team played their first round game against Eastside at home and with the crowd cheering them on they won 63 to 40.  The Minutemen then played at home again against California Academy. The Minutemen again used the crowd to help them win 64 to 45.  The CIF quarterfinal game was played against Poly Pasadena in what was a tough game as the Minutemen fought to tie the game up in the fourth quarter, but ultimately lost the game by score of 54 to 60.

The Girls soccer team finished second in league and finished the season off strong with a CIF win.  The Girls soccer team finished league play with a 2-3-1 record, which was good enough for second place.  The girls soccer team faced off against Santa Paula and won by a score of 2 to 1.  The Girls soccer team then faced South Pasadena and lost by a score of 0 to 3.

Finally the Boys soccer team finished first in league and like the Girls soccer team finished the season with a win in CIF.  The Boys soccer team went undefeated in league this year and they used their winning streak to lead them through CIF.  In the Boys soccer teams first round game the score against Azusa was tied two to two before being decided by penalty kicks.  Even though the Boys soccer team hadn’t been in a close match in a while that didn’t faze them as they went on to win in the game in penalty kicks.  The Minutemen then went on to face off against Campbell Hall who they lost to by a score of 0 to 2.

As this year's Winter sports season ends many are looking forward to what happens next year for these teams and many are also looking forward to the Spring sports season.
