Maranatha Wins at Prestigious Jack Howe Speech and Debate Tournament

On September 21-23, the Maranatha Varsity Speech and Debate Team competed at the prestigious Jack Howe Speech and Debate Tournament at Cal State Long Beach.
After a grueling weekend of competitive rounds of public speaking and debating, senior Jake Anderson emerged victorious with a trophy in the Lincoln Douglas Debate. Last year, Jake was an award-winning Public Forum debater who transitioned this year to the Lincoln Douglas Debate in preference for a one-on-one trial-like style of debate. Speech and Debate Coach Patrick Mesisca ‘92 said, “I am very proud of Jake and his versatility in achieving success in different styles of debate. It is a thrill for me to witness his work ethic for four years and watch him achieve success of this magnitude his senior year.”

The Speech and Debate Team will now begin preparation for the Schurr Fall Classic held on Saturday and Sunday, October 27-28 at Schurr High School.
