Homecoming and Spirit Week Were Winning Touchdowns!
Last week brought a lot of excitement, cheers, and splashes of color during Maranatha’s Homecoming and Spirit Week!
In the days leading up to the big Homecoming Game, students, faculty, and staff participated in Spirit Week. Dressed head to toe in their class colors of either blue, red, purple, or green, Maranatha students showed their Minuteman spirit by decorating the campus with streamers, balloons, and posters. Also, with the help from our Associated Student Body (ASB), there was a specialty planned themed Pep Rally, that included themes such as Disney, the 80s, and sports, everyday during Spirit Week. Freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors competed head-to-head in various games and activities to earn spirit points for their grade. In the end, it was the senior class that celebrated with the most points earned during Spirit Week.
On the evening of Friday, September 14, our Varsity football team went up against, and defeated, their opponents from Maywood High School with a score of 62-0! Many from the Maranatha community, that included parents, students, faculty, staff, and alumni, gathered in the bleachers or at the Alumni Reception zone to cheer for their Minutemen. During halftime, the 2018 Homecoming Court was presented to everyone in attendance, and the long-awaited news of this year’s Homecoming King and Queen was finally announced. Congratulations to the 2018 Homecoming King and Queen are seniors Matt Rutzen and Selah-Joy Nakamura.
The week of festivities, fun, and winning excitement concluded on the night of Saturday, September 15 with the Homecoming Dance. Hundreds of our students gathered in the gym for the annual Homecoming Dance, with the 2018 theme being “Astroworld - Glow in the Dark.” Students danced the night away, filled up on food, and enjoyed various game activities. ASB Advisor Keyera Albright said, "Last week was filled with healthy competition, fun, and community. I'm proud of the work that ASB did, and they really came together as a team. I've only received positive responses from everyone."
Homecoming and Spirit Week are time-honored traditions that bring our Maranatha community together to celebrate being a part of this great school. The campus was buzzing the entire week with activities, cheers, laughter, and people reconnecting and sharing memories. The student members of ASB and their advisor, Keyera Albright, deserve our applause. It was a week that required a lot of planning, organizing, and sacrifice and everyone came through. WAY TO GO, MINUTEMEN!
