The HR Department Helping Direct and Coordinate Maranatha’s Administrative Functions

Come meet the Human Resources Department that assists in the responsibility of the recruitment, screening, interviewing, and hiring of the wonderful faculty and staff that make up Maranatha High School.
In this series, we have been introducing each of our hardworking and dedicated faculty and staff departments. This is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the talented people God has brought to our school, and to give readers a little insight into each department, its members, and the calling the Lord has placed on their lives. We hope these features give you an even greater appreciation for our staff and the ways they enrich our students’ lives and help make Maranatha High School a Christ-centered and welcoming community.

THE HUMAN RESOURCES DEPARTMENT

Lori Diamond '80 (Human Resources Director)
The Human Resources Department has come a long way since Lori started working at Maranatha 16 years ago as the Assistant to the Head of School. In fact, there was no Human Resources Department at the time, rather different responsibilities, such as benefits and payroll, that were spread across other departments, including the business office, Head of School office, technology office, and the Dean’s office. Lori says, “I relied heavily on the long time front office staff and an instruction notebook that was left by my predecessor who had been at Maranatha for 27 years and knew just about everything. Somewhere along the way, the Head of School asked me to take on Human Resources responsibilities, which led to the creation of the Human Resources Department.”

Over the past 10 years, Lori has had the privilege of working to serve the Maranatha faculty and staff. “I have the pleasure of helping MHS, not only by caring for our employees, but also helping us to stay compliant with current employment laws. Also last October, I was blessed to welcome Donna Henson to the department. I have enjoyed getting to know Donna and if you spend much time with her, you will quickly experience her joyful and refreshing spirit. Our office, and the Finance Department across the hall, have developed a close bond, and together we are growing in our relationships with each other and trusting God together for all that He has in store for Maranatha.”

Quirky Fact: “My first car was a bright orange Baja Bug. You could hear me coming as I roared around town in my two-seater off-road Buggy. You could also find me out in the sand, or driving through mud and streams of water. Sometimes I wish I still had that car because those were fun times.”

Donna Henson (Human Resources Coordinator/Recruiter)
Donna is new to the Maranatha community, having recently started working at MHS only a couple months ago. She loves the Biblical values that are instilled in the school environment and the staff’s commitment to serve God throughout the world. Donna says, “Serving God is what I witnessed growing up as I have been surrounded by a Godly family who set the tone for why I serve The Lord. My departed uncle was a Pastor and an example here in Pasadena, who left a legacy of prayer warriors throughout the community. So working at Maranatha is an extension of what I was taught. If you see me smiling, I’m praising, praying, and serving God, for He alone is the answer.”

Donna most enjoys the Biblical leadership of Maranatha for believing in the “Trinity” of the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit, as well as Lori’s leadership, which demonstrates the serving of others. “What led me to Maranatha was the promise from the Lord that He is ordering my footsteps, and behind those words was the scripture, Jeremiah 29:11 ‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ says the Lords. ‘They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.’”

Quirky Fact: “When discussing the Word of God’s Principles to non-believers, I tend to go into actor's mode and role play the Principle so that the person has a visual to remember.”
