Advisory Groups Volunteer and Serve our Local Communities

This year during the months of October through December, Maranatha advisory groups are volunteering to help and serve in and around our communities.

Traditionally, we have had our All-School Service Days on the Monday and Tuesday of Thanksgiving week. This year, we wanted to try a different approach to serving our local community by allowing each Advisory group the opportunity to select a service project that was important to them. We believe this approach will foster a deeper connection to the projects and non-profit organizations and ministries we are serving. As Christ followers, we can see clearly in Scripture that there is a direct calling from the Lord to serve others. These service opportunities give us the chance to be invested citizens and care for the community around us as we are called to do.  
 
There has been a great response from our Advisory groups! Here are a few of the service projects in which our students have already participated. Mrs. Dobbs' group of 12th grade girls chose to support Club 21, a local Pasadena organization that provides educational tools and resources to individuals with Down syndrome.
 
The girls in Mrs. Dobb’s group (Lily Amateau , Bailey Becker, Ruby Stewart, Astrid Osses, Rebeca Garnica, Christina Garcia, Liana Domingo, Maria Kefalas) spent their Saturday volunteering at Club 21's annual carnival! The girls staffed the tie dye station for the entirety of the carnival, and helped Club 21 carry out their mission. This was a great experience in which these students got to experience the joy of service! 
 
Mrs. Arcos and Ms. Smith’s teams went out to clean around the Rose Bowl. A gentleman passing by was so touched by what he witnessed, that he called and left a message at the school thanking the girls for their efforts. Other Advisory groups have prepared care packages for the homeless, made blankets for shelters, cleaned and painted at a local preschool, helped with landscaping, setup at a church festival, helped at churches, cleaned our Adopt-a-Highway section of the 210 Freeway, cleaned Eaton Canyon, and the list goes on. Hopefully you have a taste of the great things that are going on with our service days this year. We are delighted with the way our students are demonstrating God’s love through service.
