“Making Together”: Maranatha Arts Festival 2022

By John Wells, Arts Department Chair
Every year, I am amazed and surprised by the creativity and talent of Maranatha students. This year was no exception.

The sheer amount of art displayed and the variety of styles and media used was impressive. From our 2D art display boards in the Student Center, to the crazy bird created by our students using 3D printers, to the short film projects, photography and graphic design displayed on our brand new 16’x9’ LED wall – it was pretty breathtaking.

All of this was displayed in our newly updated Student Center, complete with new theatrical lighting, new sound system, enhanced acoustics, and, of course, the giant LED wall.

If you ventured outside the Student Center, you would have discovered “found objects” art installations across the campus, each one created by our students. By following our Arts Festival map, you would have ended up at the largest installation of art in the atrium behind the Academic Center – a piece constructed by our Intro to Art students, made entirely out of colored PVC pipe and zip ties.

The final exhibit, still being created by our students, can be viewed by everyone who comes into the parking garage each morning. On the south wall, there are three giant murals being painted. Our students are doing a spectacular job! Make it a point to stop and take a look at their work.

All in all, a great year for the arts at Maranatha led to an amazing Arts Festival. Don’t miss it next year!
