That Feeling in the Air? It’s School Spirit!

School spirit is back… big time!

Those words, spoken by Head of School John Rouse, summarized his feelings after he attended several athletic events last week. In one, our Girls’ Volleyball team battled Crescenta Valley High School - one of the best teams in the area. Our ladies took their opponent to the breaking point, and though we eventually lost the match, our student athletes showed great determination and perseverance. The parents and students who were in attendance were also highly engaged in the match and their enthusiasm was contagious!

Our football team traveled to Beverly Hills for our season opener against the Normans of Beverly Hills HS. Parents in the stands, along with a good group of our students who traveled to the game, were excited to see our team compete. And they were not disappointed! The Minutemen dominated the field, resulting in a blow-out victory (38-0). Even more outstanding than the final score was the outpouring of joy by our athletes, parents, and students. Anticipation is building for this Thursday night’s first home football game at 7:00 pm on the Keith Family Field - don’t miss it!

The Football, Volleyball, Cross Country, and Tennis teams’ seasons are underway, and the student production of “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” opens on September 9th. There are multiple opportunities coming up to experience first-hand the joy of high school life at Maranatha, whether it’s watching our students compete or perform, attending a parent event, or volunteering your time on campus. Check the school calendar often for the latest event information.

The start of this school year has certainly proven that the Maranatha community is ready to be back on campus, participating in events, and proud to display their school spirit. Beginning with the joy, laughter and competition of Uprising, and the record number of families eager to enjoy the Back to School Family Luau together, there is an energy in the air. That buzz of enthusiasm you feel? It’s our students, staff, and families!
