Maranatha's Response To Recent Events of Racial Injustice

In light of the recent sequence of racially motivated killings and violence, Maranatha High School joins the voices who are deeply disturbed and grieved over the brutal and senseless killing of George Floyd. We also acknowledge the countless other black and brown people who have been victims of systemic racism throughout American history.

We mourn with the black community who have suffered unimaginable pain. We mourn with all people who have been targets of power abuse, hatred, and violence because of their ethnic background. Ultimately, we stand with those who recognize that all people, regardless of their ethnicity or race, are made in the image of God and deserve to be treated with absolute love and equity.

The Maranatha community finds its deepest identity in Christ, however, we are becoming aware that we have been insensitive to racial issues and together we are looking to Christ to bring sight, healing, and repair to the interracial relationships within our community. As a community, we are becoming increasingly aware of the ways we ourselves have not seen the pain that people of color experience. We are committed to making sure students of color in our community are seen and heard.

We desire to continue Christ’s mission to free the oppressed and care for those who are marginalized. We hope to build a community unified, as Paul says, against the powers of this dark world and the spiritual forces of evil (Eph. 6:12) from which racism is born. We ask that you join us in standing with the oppressed, in praying for our nation and our world, and in listening to those who long to be heard.
