Two MHS Students are Selected as Congressional Art Finalists

Congratulations to Maranatha senior Marian Seo and junior Rachel Molina for both being selected as Finalists for Congresswoman Judy Chu’s “Artistic Discovery” competition.
Marian Seo ‘20 and Rachel Molina ‘21 have been selected to be amongst the seven finalists in the “Artistic Discovery” Congressional Art Competition for Judy Chu’s 27th Congressional District. Winners will be announced during a virtual ceremony this Friday, May 29, at 3:00 p.m.

This ceremony is a prestigious, nationwide competition, held by each member of Congress for students in their district. Maranatha’s Visual Arts faculty member, Diane Barnhart, said, “This is a huge honor as this district is very large and includes many participating schools, most of which are much bigger than Maranatha. I am so proud of the hard work that both Marian and Rachel have put into their artwork.

Each spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the nation and in each congressional district. Students submit entries to their representative’s office, and panels of district artists select the winning entries. Winners are recognized both in their district and at an annual awards ceremony in Washington, DC. The winning works are displayed for one year at the U.S. Capitol.
