Members of Maranatha Community Work to Fight Against Covid-19

Since PPE (personal protective equipment) is currently more readily available in China, Mr. Wang wanted to support Maranatha and its local community by sending the masks to help in the fight against Covid-19. With only a few staff on campus to use the masks during the Safer at Home orders, Maranatha decided to donate them to USC Verdugo Hills Hospital. On Monday, April 27, Maranatha’s Head of School John Rouse, delivered the 1,000 masks to Dr. Jon Crabb, Verdugo Hills Emergency Room physician. Dr. Crabb is a Maranatha alumnus from the Class of 1994 and a current parent of MHS Sophomore, Cate Crabb.

 

Dr. Crabb has personally treated dozens of patients diagnosed with Covid-19 over the last six weeks. When asked about the most challenging aspect of treating these patients, Dr. Crabb shared, “One is that there are a lot of very sick patients and many dying. That is the nature of Emergency Medicine but it has been much more frequent lately. Another is that patients are isolated -- no visitors are allowed and patients feel alone. It is challenging to try to bring them some level of comfort. Additionally, many patients with underlying psychiatric illness are having a very difficult time and are coming to the ER.”

 

Knowing how difficult it is to be a “front line” responder during the fight against Covid-19, Dr. Crabb was asked how his Maranatha family could pray for him and his colleagues. “Pray for the Holy Spirit to guide me and comfort others through me. Pray for healing for those who are sick. Pray for endurance and patience with joy. Pray that many would confront their own mortality and turn to Jesus, the only source of true peace.”
