Maranatha Seniors Named National Merit Scholar Finalists

Maranatha High School recognized three outstanding seniors, Justin Purnomo, Samantha Wu, and Sara Wu, who were named as Finalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program, a United States academic scholarship competition for recognition and university scholarships administered by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC). High school students enter the National Merit Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®), which serves as an initial screen of approximately 1.6 million entrants each year. Out of only 16,000 semifinalists, just 7,500 Finalists are chosen across the U.S. Justin, Samantha, and Sara were selected to continue their advancement in the National Merit Scholarship Program as Finalists for 2020 for each demonstrating high potential and distinguished performances for future academic accomplishments.

Maranatha’s three commended National Merit Scholar Finalists are not just academically talented, they are well-rounded seniors who are also accomplished members of many Maranatha extracurricular activities including SeaPerch, Science Olympiad, Science Club, Maranatha Orchestra, California Scholarship Federation, National Honor Society, Ambassador Club, volleyball, basketball, and Hope for Humanity. Justin, Samantha, and Sara are great representatives of the Maranatha community. They will continue to take with them from Maranatha a legacy of service, faith, scholarship, and community that will perpetuate their story as they begin their college journey.
