Maranatha’s Spanish Honor Society Recognizes 24 Students

Congratulations to 24 Maranatha students for their achievements and induction into the Spanish Honor Society!
The Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica (SHH), Chapter Ramon Riba Elichabe, was formally organized at Maranatha High School by Sra. Alba Breitenbucher in 2014. On March 13, twenty-four Maranatha students had their Candlelight Induction Ceremony.

The Spanish Honor Society is an honor society for high school students enrolled in Spanish and/or Portuguese, sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP) with the objective to recognize high school achievement in Spanish and to promote interest in Hispanic studies. SHH contributes more than $160,000 in awards to student members of the SHH. The most prestigious of the awards are college scholarships given to 60 high school senior SHH members and the Student Travel Awards given to 24 high school junior SHH members.

SHH senior members: Caleb Cheung, Haina Jin, Leila Karimi, and Fiela Masango

SHH junior members: Summer Alsarraf, Kayla Brewer, Sussy Canjura, Isaac Garcia, Karen Garnica, Enrique Garza, Valerie Hernandez, Alexsia Johnson, Daniela Morales, Thomas O’Brien, Melanie Rivas, Samantha Santoro, Chloe Urias, and William Yujuico.

SHH sophomore members: Gabriella Gonzales, Haely Parada, Audrey Portillo-Recinos, Erick Stephens, and Sarah Summitt

SHH freshman member: Isabella Henriquez

Special thanks to Mr. John Rouse and fellow Maranatha parents for attending the ceremony and helping us celebrate and honor the students.

The SHH will hold its fundraiser the last week of March: The Pulsera Project, which is a nonprofit organization that educates, empowers, and connects Central American artists with students in more than 2,500 U.S. schools through the sale of colorful hand-woven bracelets, or "pulseras" in Spanish. The SHH appreciates your support!
