Maranatha families,

I am proud to announce our Valedictorian and Salutatorian for the Maranatha High School graduating class of 2020.
Our Salutatorian is Samantha Wu, a dedicated young woman who works not only at her courses, but at her music, her leadership, and her selfless service. And the honor of Valedictorian, our top academic achievement, goes to...Sara Wu. Like her sister, she has been committed to what God has laid in front of her to be and to do. We are a richer school because of these sisters and we look forward to hearing from Samantha at Baccalaureate and Sara at our Graduation event on May 30.

A few reminders:
  • This is the last week of new material in eLearning.
  • Next week includes four days of review, with finals for classes beginning next Friday.
  • MHS Live LIVE was today and again this Friday.
  • AP Exams began today and continue through May 22.
  • Teachers should be able to answer questions about “finals” but, as we said, the impact on a final grade has been greatly diminished. Each department has created its own guidelines which include some using that time of finals merely to submit or discuss a final project.
  • Arts and Theology do not meet during those three days of finals.
If it feels like everything is on the move, it is! While schools are not yet on the list, the governor and county are starting to open up some businesses with very strict health guidelines of course. If you have been out lately, you have seen a lot more traffic on the road! And for Maranatha, close to half of our students are beginning the two-week window of Advanced Placement exams. You will notice that your children are working on projects or longer papers that signify the culmination of a semester or a year of learning. And, the end-of-year is approaching.

Lastly, a quick word of gratitude for last Saturday. What a great morning of celebration it was to see all the seniors come through the upper lot surrounded by so many staff and faculty, balloons, and posters while the seniors got both graduation materials and the famous cupcake with a college pennant signifying where they are headed next year!

Please see below for a special announcement from the Summer School team.

Thank you,

AN UPDATE REGARDING SUMMER ACADEMY

We are working to bring clarity to our Summer School program. As we are all aware, there are many factors outside of our control that impact a decision like this. We have to be flexible, but we also have to move forward. To that end, we are prepared to offer two potential plans. Plan A is to offer summer school courses on campus. We are currently working on new measures to help ensure the health and safety of the entire Maranatha community during the summer school session. This is, of course, dependent on the go-ahead from the Board of Health and the governor to open up our campus. In the event that we are unable to offer on-campus classes, we are preparing a Plan B that involves a list of accepted online options. These are not MHS remote learning options, but rather they are independent programs that specialize in offering online summer courses.

Because so much of this process is subject to government approval, we have made the following commitment - if by May 29 we do not have a "green light" to offer on-campus classes, we will move to Plan B - acceptable online course options. This time frame allows time to register for and complete full-year courses during the summer break. The College Counseling Department will be available to answer questions and assist with the registration process as needed.

NOTE: Full refunds will be offered to anyone who paid for an on-campus class that is not being offered.
