Maranatha High School Welcomes New Head Football Coach LaVar Arrington
Maranatha High School is proud to introduce new Head Football Coach LaVar Arrington. Coach Arrington comes to Maranatha with a strong passion for the game along with a gift and enthusiasm for teaching fundamentals of the sport to young players. He is looking forward to leading the Minutemen football program.
Coach Arrington has a long history with football. He played at Penn State, earning several honors including the Chuck Bednarik Award and the Dick Butkus Award in 1999, before being selected #2 overall in the 2000 NFL draft. He went on to play 7 years in the NFL for the Washington Redskins and the NY Giants and played in 3 Pro Bowl. Working with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, LaVar played a significant role teaching cutting-edge technique to youth across the country in an effort to help the sport grow and become safer for future generations. Most recently, LaVar coached football at Long Beach Poly as the Assistant Defensive Coordinator and Linebacker Coach.
Maranatha Athletic Director Sammy Skinner said, "Coach Arrington is a man of integrity, has unwavering faith, and we couldn't be more excited for him to lead our young men".
When asked about this opportunity, Coach Arrington said "I'm most excited about this opportunity because Maranatha is a great institution. Coach Bogan did a heck of a job and built a strong foundation. I’m looking forward to continuing the football legacy at Maranatha".
