International Department Celebrates Chinese New Year
The annual Chinese New Year is known as the Lunar New Year or the Spring Festival, and this year the Chinese New Year will be celebrated on January 20th.
Chinese New Year is the most significant holiday celebrated by Chinese around the world. It is a time for reunion amongst family members and friends, and signifies new beginnings and the hope of blessings and prosperity in the new year. During Chinese New Year, children and unmarried young adults receive cash gifts in red envelopes which symbolize well-wishes. This year, Chinese New Year falls on January 22 and in celebration of this festival, Maranatha High School’s International Student Department will be giving out red envelopes to all students, faculty, and staff. These envelopes will contain vouchers for the school’s Minuteman Cafe, and are our way of wishing the Maranatha community a very Happy Chinese New Year!
