Mid-Autumn Festival

Maranatha’s international student program will share this annual festival with us this week.

The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Moon Festival or Mooncake Festival, is a traditional celebration in Chinese culture. The Mid-Autumn Festival is a holiday similar to our Thanksgiving and will be celebrated this year in many Asian countries on September 10.

It is one of the most important holidays in Chinese culture. On this day, the Chinese gather with family and friends, offer thanks to the fall harvest, and pray for longevity and good fortune. They believe that the moon is at its brightest and roundest on this day, and as the word "round" in Chinese sounds similar to the word for "reunion", the Chinese typically have family reunions on Mid-Autumn Festival.

As a school community, we will celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival on Wednesday, August 31. Students will be provided a sample tasting of mooncakes during their Advisory Groups. On behalf of our international students, we hope you will enjoy the celebration with us.
