Join Us for the “Authors, Artists and Antiquity" 2020 Tour of Europe

In the summer of 2020 the English and Art Departments are hosting a wonderful opportunity for our students to add more pages to their life-adventure book. We will be traveling to Europe for 15 days, visiting Dublin, a stop in Wales, many memorable locations in England, and ending in Edinburgh, Scotland from June 1-15.
We will sojourn to beautiful locations steeped in history and art, and gain greater insights into culture, faith, and geography. We will step out of our “comfort zone” and broadening our perspective while gaining an appreciation and respect for how things are done outside of our own country. These enrichment tours are a valuable experience for our students as they return home with their borders enlarged and with a new desire to continue learning.
What will we see? Here is a quick snapshot of some of the highlights:
In Dublin, Ireland: After landing and checking into our hotel, we will stroll through the Georgian-era city, which was originally a Viking settlement. Our tour will include a trip to Trinity College, view the Book of Kells, visit the beautiful Christ Church Cathedral and end our Dublin experience with an evening of Irish music and dancing.
In Wales: We’ll take the ferry from Dublin to Holyhead in Wales and then board our bus to visit historic and romantic, medieval fortress built by Edward I of England, Conwy Castle. After adventuring, we head toward England.
In England: Everyone knows Shakespeare, and we will get to know him even better as we enter into his birthplace, Stratford-upon-Avon, join the great minds at Oxford, focusing primarily on C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien, and visiting New College, which is actually one of the oldest colleges at Oxford. From Oxford, we journey to the Bath region, via the huge, mysterious stone circle at Avebury and then stop by the beautiful village of Lacock, visiting the 16th century Abbey. In Bath we travel back in time to the Roman era, marveling at the ancient Roman Bath House. From Bath, it’s on to London, by way of the smaller, yet more famous stone circle, Stonehenge and visit with Jane Austen at her house at Chawton. While in London, we will see the town, visiting St. Paul’s Cathedral, Leadenhall Market (used as Diagon Alley in Harry Potter), bring London history to life at the Tower of London, enjoy a performance at the Globe Theater, take in the artwork at the National Gallery, tour Westminster Abbey, where countless kings and queens have been married and buried, then cap our time in London by cruising the Thames River and getting a soaring perspective of London on the London Eye. Heading toward Scotland, we will venture toward the border by way of York, Hadrian’s Wall, built in A.D. 122, and stop by the university town of Durham with it’s imposing cathedral completed in 1133.
In Edinburgh Scotland: After a stroll through the city, we will come to the picture-perfect Edinburgh Castle, sitting atop a defunct volcano. After we hobnob with royals of the past, we will take a stroll through the Greyfriar’s Kirk and enjoy free time to cap off our 15 days of adventure.

Alex: “I LOVED the food! We got to try so many delicious things. I ate a lot, but we were so active and saw so many things, I didn’t even gain weight!”
Lynette: “I had no idea how life-changing this trip would turn out to be for me. While on the trip, God stirred my heart to serve him abroad. I saw first-hand how much the world needed Jesus, and knew I had to go back.”
