On Saturday, September 26, the Maranatha High School Varsity Speech and Debate Team participated in their first Speech and Debate Tournament of the 2020-2021 school year and their first virtual tournament ever.

A group of Maranatha students wanted to do something to support those in need during the Coronavirus pandemic. Social distancing and for some, being half way around the world in China, wasn’t going to stop this group of determined students.
Every student at Maranatha is part of a small Advisory Group that meets weekly and provides them with a place for community and connection. This year, each Advisory Group will also be placed into a larger “Community Group” of approximately 80 students and Advisors.
When the Coronavirus hit and suddenly students had to complete their school year from home, it seemed as though the Performing Arts Showcase was not going to happen. But Maranatha’s student performers and faculty were determined that the show must go on!

For the first time in Maranatha High School’s history, twin sisters, Sara and Samantha Wu, were named Valedictorian and Salutatorian, respectively. The accomplished and talented young ladies are separated by only minutes in age, and a mere one one-hundredth of a point in their grade point average.
Akili Smith, formerly the 3rd overall draft pick by the Cincinnati Bengals in the 1999 draft, is the newest addition to Coach LaVar Arrington’s football staff for Maranatha High School’s upcoming season.
Shouting and holding signs that said “Black Lives Matter” and “No Justice, No Peace,” close to 100 members of the Maranatha High School community marched Friday afternoon on June 12 that began at Central Park in Pasadena located at Fair Oaks Avenue and Del Mar Boulevard.

In light of the recent sequence of racially motivated killings and violence, Maranatha High School joins the voices who are deeply disturbed and grieved over the brutal and senseless killing of George Floyd. We also acknowledge the countless other black and brown people who have been victims of systemic racism throughout American history.
As a follow-up to last week's article in which it was announced that two Maranatha students were selected amongst the seven finalists in Congresswoman Judy Chu's "Artistic Discovery" competition, Maranatha High School is pleased to announce that the two students placed in the Top 3 overall.
The current COVID-19 pandemic has affected all of us in many different ways. Financially, many small businesses are especially hard hit due to the lack of patronage caused by social distancing measures. Maranatha would like to help.
